So, not only was Microsoft kind enough to cram Windows 11 down my throat forcibly without my consent last night
but this was my desktop this morning!

That’s right, none of the desktop icon would display their label’s unless I selected them and even then it was a dark grey text on the dark background.
So you tell me, which database shortcut is which?!
Another great product brought to you by Microsoft!
The Fix!
Should you ever find yourself in this situation, or at least what resolved it for me was to enable icon drop shadows on icon label.
- Open Settings (Right-click on the Windows button and select Settings)
- In the Find a setting search input, enter ‘Drop’
It should then only list ‘Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows’, Click that option. - Enable, at the bottom, the option ‘Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop’
et voilà! The text is back!
