I wanted to follow-up on my recent post Excel – Bug – Microsoft Excel Cannot Open or Save Any More Documents in which suddenly, out of the blue, I could no longer open outlook attachments and would received irrelevant error messages about memory.
Well, things got worse, and I could no longer open images on my desktop, was getting weird error popups about Xbox Game Bar (whatever that is) and other weird error popups.
While this was happening, for about a week or two, I had been receiving a popup about the Windows 10 20H2 update being available…., but I kept postponing it because, let just say MS’ track record on updating has been less than ideal and I was in the middle of important work and didn’t want to be left with a bricked PC at a critical time.
Peculiarly enough, *cough, cough*, one night, Windows decided to install the update itself, without my consent (I always selected to remind me later!) and once the update was installed, suddenly all my problems vanished as fast as they had suddenly appeared a few weeks earlier! Outlook attachments can be opened again, images open fine, no more random popups …?
Since no other changes have been made to my PC, the only source of these issues and subsequent disappearance has to relate to Microsoft’s doings.
So I don’t know what games are being played here, but let’s just say I am less than impressed by such tactics.
All this to say that if you suddenly start getting error messages, Windows functionalities stop working, … then it is probably MS’ latest tactic to strong-arm you into updating your system. At least, that is my take on things based on my recent experience.
And then Microsoft wonders why people don’t trust them!
