Microsoft PowerApps, Get Ready To Open Your Wallet

Fellow MVP Alum Anders Ebro shared with the MVP group an article We need citizen devs, cries Microsoft – but pricey new licensing plans for PowerApps might put paid to that which elaborates on the fact that PowerApps will soon begin to cost developers. It would seem that Microsoft plans to monetize PowerApps above and beyond your Office365 subscription.

People are also complaining about how complex the pricing plans (different routes, differnt plans, …) are to understand and figure out actual costs vs. needs.

If your review the above mentioned article, you will see (amongst other things):

The current Office 365 or Dynamics 365 route will continue, but the terms for premium licenses are changing.

Licensing an app will cost $10 per user/month, with a minimum of 30 licenses per apps.

Alternatively, you can still licence per user at $40 per user/month, allowing unlimited applications.

So if you already are using PowerApps, heads up, you may wish to figure things out now to try and avoid any major financial surprised or find yourself crippled. If you were planing to take the dive, evaluate if it is financially worthwhile to still do so or look towards alternatives cheaper or free alternatives then getting bound to on-going monthly fees.
