WEme USB C 3.0 to SATA External Hard Drive Dock Docking Station

I recently purchased a

on Amazon, model WM-3024B to be precise, and thought I’d post my thoughts here since Amazon won’t allow me to post a proper review.

I was eagerly awaiting this unit for work purposes and was happy when it showed up at my front door less than 24 hours after placing the order. Talk about service!

I quickly unpacked the unit, okay took it out of the box. Then attached the 2 cables that came with the unit: (i) Power, (ii) data cable. Plugged every thing in, inserted 2 different drives and powered the unit on. Then I waited, … and waited, … and waited. Nothing! I checked Disk Management, nothing there either!

I then started digging, checking the little leaflet that came with the unit, searching online, but came up empty handed.

So I sent an e-mail to the 2 different e-mail addresses that were in the box: support@weme-products.com and support@alxum.com. I received a pretty generic reply (try unplugging/plugging the unit – no duh!) back from the support@alxum.com e-mail address, and never got any reply for the other.

So after a day of getting nowhere, I decided to plug it in again and just leave it go. Low and behold, it eventually showed up. All this to say that the initialization from when you turn on the unit until your PC actually will recognize the drive(s) is VERY long!

So, be very patient when you connect a drive. For instance, my 80GB 7200RPM HDD with 20.6GB of data used on it took 10 minutes to initialize before showing up for use on my Windows 10 PC.

That said, once it is operational, it is responsive. In my brief usage, data transfer was very fast.

Now for anyone saying maybe it was your HDD that was the issue, I tried 7 different drives, even an SSD, so this isn’t a one off occurrence. Anyone saying it’s my PC, well I’m driving an i7 beast with tons of RAM, … and nothing else was running at the times I was trying to work with the unit (there were tons of resources available!).

The unit itself is sleek, light and easy to use. My only personal preference would have been to have the power button on the top of the unit rather than the back side, but that truly is a very minor point.

It’s because in my reviews I included comments relating to the support from the vendor which according to Amazon, you’re not allowed to do.

The issue they had was with

I’ve struggled with the dock since I got it. Initially, I got no response from the dock to the point that I contacted the company for support and never heard from them. So support is slow or non-existent.

Sorry, but product support is just as important as the product itself. Knowing that a vendor stands behind their products, are easily reachable is very important in my view and the only reason I created the post here. Here I can give a full account rather than a framed commentary.

You’ll also notice that I eventually did get a reply and included it in my review.

That long wait means the mass storage devices are NTFS formatted. Try testing with a FAT32 formatted device and it will recognize the device a lot sooner.
