I’d been holding off getting a cell phone for quite some time now, mainly because I thought most companies were simply ripping off their clients and I was not interested in a 2-3yr contract…
I looked into Public Mobile in 2010, but sadly they still were not in my area (West Island of Montreal).
Well, they are now (2011)! I took the plunge and have no regret so far. What was advertised has been the reality in my experience. No hassel. I pay 24.95 a month for unlimited 24/7 phone and text within Canada and the USA + voicemail… Show me another provider that offers this at that price! You won’t be able to, I looked. My calls have been clear and I have never yet had a call drop on me.
So far, so good!
Which phone did you get?
I got the Samsung, no issues so far.
I purchased the Samsung R312 as well and I too have no complaints. It works well, was easy to learn and setup, has good reception…
You have reception everywhere? I heard someone say they couldn’t get reception in their basement…
I haven’t experience any issue, but then again I’m not sure if I have actually tried it in the basement. One way or another, I wouldn’t expect any cell phone to necessarily work in any basement, underground tunnel, etc. There are limit to what any wireless signal can penetrate. All I know is that whenever I have used the cell phone, I haven’t had any problems yet. Moreover, the coverage area keeps expanding, so my ability to communicate keep growing and I don’t have to pay roaming fees when I go off island…
Do you also get call display and second line? or is that extra??
Thanks
It depends on the package you choose. It may be included or you may have to pay extra for the service.
Very disappointed, do not buy! I purchased the ZTE C76, signed up for the $15 talk-only plan and I added the $5 long distance plan. The phone feels cheap, but I’m willing to live with that. However I soon realized that the coverage in Montreal is crap. I tried making a few calls from downtown, Westmount, and other central areas and I could only get reception about 50% of the time. Calling long distance (to Ontario) was also a torturing experience. I could hear an echo of my voice and there was a time delay in the conversation. I tried returning the phone (which, according to the information package they gave me, I was able to do since I used the phone for less than 30 minutes), but was then told that I could only return it withing 7 days of purchase. The store manager was rude to me and told me to call customer service since he did not want to deal with me. So I called customer service, I filed a complaint, and I haven’t heard from them since then. Why I am not surprised that their customer service is as bad as the rest of their services?
I am truly sorry to hear that you had so many problems, as this was not my experience at all. The one time I had to deal with their customer support they were most helpful! As for their return policy they had explained it to me fully at the time of purchase, I am surprised they did not do the same with you. With regards to reception, I have not yet experienced any problems being able to make phone calls on or off the island of Montreal thus far.
