This is an issue I encountered a while back and just never got around to posting about, but when I was playing around with the Modern Web Browser control and trying to find a technique to accelerate loading local files I messed around with my Hosts file. This is also something I do when doing web development work.
Shortly after editing the Hosts files, and authorizing the access through UAC and with Administrative privileges none the less, I received:

Well, that was me a moment ago seriously questioning the competence at Microsoft, again!
I was in the Printers & scanners dialog and accidentally pressed the Remove device button. Oooops!
Luckily for me, Windows offers a confirmation dialog. Right!
I myself have had this issue where my PC didn’t have the correct time.
Furthermore, I was working at a clients and about 10 of the PCs suffered from the same issue, Windows had the wrong time.
I went into the Date & Time dialog and tried using the ‘Sync now‘ button and it never did anything. Reboot, nothing! Change Time zones, and then back again, nothing!
Some weird bug at work here! Some PCs were fine, yet others were not, with the exact same settings on the same network … 🤷

So, a while back Windows implemented ‘Controlled folders’ and I’ve been banging my head against my PC ever since.
Up until now I’ve managed to make things work, but today I wanted to use Camtasia to make a recording and when it came time to save the recording I got:
I wanted to follow-up on my recent post Excel – Bug – Microsoft Excel Cannot Open or Save Any More Documents in which suddenly, out of the blue, I could no longer open outlook attachments and would received irrelevant error messages about memory.
Well, things got worse, and I could no longer open images on my desktop, was getting weird error popups about Xbox Game Bar (whatever that is) and other weird error popups.
Yes, yet another Windows 10 Bug! It seems to never end. I basically stopped trying to track bugs as I just couldn’t keep up anymore with all the never ending issue with Windows 10 and Office 365 (it could be someone’s full-time job!), but this one directly impacted me when I most needed a functional printer for work and I read many very complex solutions in various forums that I thought I’d quickly share a simpler solution that worked for me. Hopefully this might help someone else out there facing the same issue.
My PC automatically upgraded to Win 10 version 1809 a couple days ago and now I can’t print anymore!
My Printer is still listed and marked as fine, but any print job from any application errs. The Printer status simply states “Error – Printing“. Rebooting does nothing. I tried to find something in the Event Log, but haven’t managed to locate anything relative to printing. There is nothing indicating any error on the printer itself, the red light doesn’t engage and it remain in a ready state, the issue seems to entirely lie with Windows 10.
